	<description><![CDATA[Private Joe took refuge from a shelling in a bomb-damaged cathedral in Cologne. Among the shattered pews and fallen stone, he saw a German soldier, equally young, doing the same on the opposite side. Their eyes met across the nave. A silent truce held in the hollowed space.<br /><br />Joe noticed the German was fixated on a small, undamaged statue of Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travelers. Slowly, the German approached it, not looking at Joe. He took off his dog tag and carefully hung it on the saint's outstretched stone hand. A desperate prayer for a safe journey home.<br /><br />An artillery round shook the walls. The moment broke. The German fled out a side door. Joe was about to do the same when he paused. He walked to the statue, took his own dog tags, and placed them beside the German's. Two soldiers, two names, one silent plea to the same indifferent saint.<br /><br />He ran to rejoin his unit, carrying the strange comfort that somewhere, an enemy shared the same fragile hope. The cathedral, for a moment, had held a sanctuary for their mutual fear. ]]></description>
